Public urged to submit views on President Ruto envoy nominees

The written statements, along with supporting evidence, are to be submitted ahead of the vetting of President William Ruto's nominees.

Following the nomination of 27 envoy positions, the National Assembly has invited the public to submit their views about the nominees.

The written statements, along with supporting evidence, are to be submitted ahead of the vetting of President William Ruto's nominees. He nominated the 27 individuals on March 8, 2024.

"Whereas, Section 6(9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011 provides that "any person may, prior to the approval hearing and by written statement on oath, provide the Clerk with evidence contesting the suitability of a candidate to hold the office to which the candidate has been nominated," reads the notice.

The nominees will undergo vetting by the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations from April 4 to April 11 in the Mini-Chamber, County Hall, Parliament Buildings, starting at 9 am.

In a notice, the public has been urged to forward the memoranda to the Clerk of the National Assembly through P.O. Box 41842-00100, Nairobi, hand-deliver it to the Office of the Clerk, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, or emailed to cna@parliament.go.ke.

The submissions must be sent on or before Tuesday, April 2, 2024, by 5 pm.

Following receipt of the nominations from the President, the Speaker, via a communication made on Thursday, March 21, 2024, conveyed the message to the House and forwarded the names and curriculum vitae of the nominees to the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations for consideration and reporting to the House.

Additionally, the nominees have been directed to appear for the approval hearings with their original identity cards, academic and professional certificates, and other relevant testimonials.

They have also been urged to obtain letters/certificates of compliance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.
